I consider myself a homesteader, even though I live in a suburban neighborhood (although we're near the outskirts of the city, so I consider it more country than not). Since my childhood I had always wanted to get chickens. So finally I sprang for some last year, getting 6. The last year has been really fun! My 5 kids have really enjoyed interacting with them and seeing them run around the yard.
In addition to raising chickens I have an awesome rabbit that just roams around the yard. I also love to garden, grow fruit trees, and I also have my eyes set on trying beekeeping next year. Other interests are being outdoors, hiking, camping, and generally trying anything new. I love to learn!
I have three different breeds of chickens, but not sure what breeds there are! I have one of one breed, two of another, and I used to have 3 of a third until a dog broke into the yard last fall and killed one
.
To steal from the radio industry, I'm a long time reader, first time poster. I've finally made the jump because one of my chickens is acting really funky and I haven't been able to find conclusive information anywhere. So hoping that I can get some insights from the expertise in this community! I'll post the question and info on the appropriate thread.
Happy to be here!
