I failed to copy and paste the questions so here is a blurb of likely most of the stuff maybe too much stuff haha!
I’ve been a fan of BYC for at least 15yrs I think? I was previously a member but we moved overseas and I wasn’t able to have my own birds for a while. I am now back, I live on Vancouver Island in B.C. Canada, and so far my little flock consists of some ‘Heinz 57’ girls that were hatched in September and (drum roll) are laying up a storm!!! They’re a mix of Heritage who-knows-what and I’m impressed with them, to say the least. I’ve also got a crazy flock (herd may be more appropriate) of Muscovy ducks whom appreciate the food handouts but truly do their own thing. They graze and roam on about 10acres of grass/field and enjoy a ginormous pond. Ideally they will eventually be reined in and contained so we can enjoy the pond without slip’n’sliding on duck poop! Haha
Chicken goals apart from eggs (eventually meat as well) include sourcing and breeding some GOOD quality birds. I do not have any interest in showing but I want good genetics and I would love to become a reputable source of quality hatching eggs for others. I am partial to blue/green/brown eggs for no logical reason and I am really hoping to acquire some Welsummer and Silverudd’s hatching eggs this year.
I have an Brinsea octagon20 incubator which served me very well a decade ago, hopefully it will be equally as useful now that it is out of storage again! I am too-easily tempted and am trying to postpone an upgrade or additional incubator this year.
In addition to the ‘outside birds’ I have two ‘inside birds’… a kooky Green-cheek conure and an old and wise cockatiel.
