Hi all, I'm a new member and fairly new chicken owner. We'll be getting 10 day day old chicks later this week--- the kids and I are pretty excited.
We started out with a few adult birds this summer, and we let them free range for part of the day. Unfortunately, we had some predator issues. I really had no idea how active foxes are during the day-- until we had one run up and grab our hen, right in front of our porch, at 3:00 in the afternoon. Yikes.
Anyway, I'm afraid our new little group won't be able to do much free ranging! We are going with a fully enclosed pen this time.
