Hi from WA state!

Hi All! Thanks for the warm welcome! I talked to my neighbor and found out he has been feeding them but he is very relieved that I offered to care for them. If any of the brood is male he asked that I would find them a new home do to the crowing. I'm continuing looking through how to build a coop! I'll give an update soon and thanks again!

I have started a thread on our new coop build. You can follow here, if you're interested. It wont go fast enough to really help you, but the story under the spoiler alert discusses what goes wrong when you start too small.

Also, hope you will have a thread on your coop build and share a link here so we can follow yours. :D

If you have cockerels, rehoming would definitely be a nice thing to do for your neighbors. If you cannot, do as so many other on here do, make a great broth. The thing is, at least your cockerels would have had a better life up until that day they are culled for the soup pot, than any chicken you buy in the store. (I wish I could get this attitude in my heart. )

It is heartbreaking to think about ever culling any of these beautiful creatures; I have already bonded to them and they are still on the other side of the fence. That being said, I do eat meat, so I can't act like animals aren't being slaughtered. I could get most of my protein going forward from mostly just 4 or 5 eggs a day!

Thanks for the link on your coop build. I love threads like that.

If my current coop plan works out, I'll have a 200 sq ft footprint to work with.
I don't want to get too excited yet but I should be able to make the decision within a couple hours. I just have to think it through. I'll start a build thread asap, either way and will definitely put the link here.

Thanks again! Todd
