Hi, I'm Karen from Olympia, Washington.
When my daughter got her first flock, I thought she was insane. Now I've been bitten by the same bug. We've been raising chickens for about a year now. We bought our first flock of two week old straight-run Ameraucana/Australorp babies. They grew into three pullets and five roos, dang the luck! We chose one very sweet roo for our girls and the other four were processed. We don't do that anymore, because Greg doesn't like to kill them, and I can't eat my babies. That left us with just three hens and one roo, so I bought a flock of 12 RIRs. I chose the ones I wanted and sold the rest. I've since purchased an Easter egger and a mutt. One of my original flock has recently gone broody, so I'm working like mad to make her a little coop and run because the other girls won't leave her alone and have ripped her off of her nest. Right now we've got 11 girls...sold Wilson, our roo, when he got very threatening to my grandson. (they're free range, so is my grandson!)
I learned about BYC from a google search, but after I found you, a lot of people have recommended your site.
I love photography and digital editing. I also tend to be a caregiver, right now I'm helping my dying aunt to come to terms with death. I've got four grandkids (two bio, two step), all from my oldest son who died three years ago this month. I've got four other kids, the three boys have moved to Texas to find their own way, my only daughter is just moving down to Olympia, right across the road from us, and I couldn't be happier!
So, that's me. Anybody else from the South Sound area?
