I'm new to chickens, living in West Wisconsin. I've yet to acquire any birds, and my coop is still in the planning stage, but I hope to get some chickens this year or the next, and eventually branch out into keeping some ducks and geese as well. I have no experience with raising any animals other than family dogs, but there are a few farmers in my boyfriend's family I'm hoping to learn from.

I'm hoping to raise dual purpose chickens on pasture in movable coops protected by electric net fencing. My goal is to efficiently raise happy, healthy heritage breed chickens for both eggs and meat with as little environmental impact as possible, including feeding them from our land as much as possible, degrading the soil as little as possible, using their waste as fertilizer for the pasture/my garden, feeding them garden/kitchen scraps whenever possible, and using as much of the meat birds as possible.

I'm interested in the methods of people like Harvey and Ellen Ussery, and Joel Salatin, I like to do things naturally, and by hand, when possible
