Hi guys, Newbie here from Philippines

Thanks for the Warm welcome to the members of BYC.

@chooks4life i think i have a little knowledge in raising native Filipino chickens and a little talent to adopt and learn from you guys here at BYC hehehe . .

@ozexpat good to here about that, im staying in Nueva Ecija, Luzon but I'm currently here in ARMM, Mindanao working. I plan to buy my chickens this December after this typhoon season hoping you can give some tips and I'm eyeing on the Golden Buff and RIRs are they suitable in the Philippines?

I do not know golden buff. RIR are great. I have several adult birds as well as about a dozen 8 week old heritage RIR.

By December I should have Barred Rocks, Blue/Black/Splash, Buff and lavender Orpingtons, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes and Andalusians laying. I also have a few Marans and easter eggers. With a bit of luck the Lemon Cuckoo Orpington and Breda will be laying as well.

I to have local chickens that free range - but they are very small compared to the dual purpose birds. You will be surprised when you pick them up.

The hardest thing is getting the birds. Even in Luzon I find very few classifieds selling kano chickens and most are silkies. There are a pair of Bantam polish selling for 5000p (120 USD) on OLX at the moment.

I could sell you some birds at a reasonable price but you would have to take them on a ferry to luzon. Alternatively you could hatch some eggs. I am often commuting between Bacolod and Manila and could meet you there if you want to go that option.

I wish you well and am only too happy to help you in any way I can.

@ ozexpat

Golden buff is i think a cross between RIR and Orpington, its a hydrid bird.

Love to hear that you have RIRs, and Im defenitelly going to get some of that this December.
I think, I'll visit you in your place to pick them and to learn more from you if its Ok though? and I think I can handle ferrying birds from Bacolod to Luzon.

I don't have yet a knowledge on hatching so its a standby for me.

There is a farm in Tarlac, Luzon named ReinaHelenaFarms owned by Dr. Helena and Dr. Danny
and their known in raising BYC and supply's brown egg in markets.

Did you already meet them??
