I have to translate what the chickens are saying to my husband.
I’m building my second coop, this time out of wood and not just all wire. I want to have 6 chickens but we have only 3 right now. I found pallets in great shape with plywood on top and then some longer ones with no space between the slats, and two that look like someone was trying to build a step. I have lots of other wood; and I cut a fence post to 18” to raise the coop off the ground. My wire coop is two stories, with a floor only halfway across, and I put branches in the open area for them to roost on. The thing is like Fort Knox to predators, but my darling husband and father in law decided to cut the large, heavy branch that was above it—and not section by section, so of course it fell on the top of the coop and bent the top of the wire and now it leans to the right. Our hens are free range, and return to the coop at dusk. I’m trying to combine them. We need lots of air circulation in the spring and summer and protection from the wind and rain and the winter weather. I’ve been thinking too hard about it but I’ll post a couple of pictures of it when it’s done—to show what it turns out like.
