Hi!! I am Maria from NJ, getting my girls in a few weeks!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Better than YouTube videos us our BYC Learning Center! All kinds of great articles on all the aspects of keeping chickens... https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about anything along the way, be sure to ask. Welcome aboard!

Welcome. I didn't know one could rent chickens. How does that work? Also, can you tell us about the "class" you have to take? Just curious.
Rent the Chicken provides you with newly laying hens, coop, feeders and feed, for about 7 months. At the end you can return them or "adopt" them.

My town allows chickens, but you have to take a "chicken raising" class in-person, not online, in order to be granted a permit to keep chickens legally. A local farm offers a class to teach you how to care for chickens so I signed up. I'll post what it was like once I attend.

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.

Hi! I am getting 4 chickens later this month. My town requires a permit for chickens so I have to wait till the 14th to take a class then I can get them. I am renting chickens (the only way I could get my husband to agree to it). I have been reading and watching YouTube videos like crazy. Can't wait for my girls to arrive!!!
Welcome to BYC!!
