Hi, I am new to the forum :)

Hi, & welcome to BYC!
:jumpy
Thank you so much! 😊

I enjoyed your lively intro. It sounds like you have some ambitious goals!

My chickens (ducks and geese) are all just pets, too. Same with my sheep and miniature goats. When I go to the feed store and load up with bags of all kinds of feed, the cashiers have finally learned not to ask if get the farm-tax exemption; mine only cost me money -- they never make or save me any.

I live on an acreage and keep all the poultry cooped at night; I am retired and let them loose into a fenced yard during the day. I chose not to clip wings because I have owls, eagles, and a multitude of furry predators, and I want my poultry to be able to fly away if they need to. Your situation may be completely different.

Let us know when you get your birds, and good luck with more hobbies. Welcome to BYC!
Thank you for the welcome 🥰! I tend to get ambitious, determined and excited when I have goals LOL. I love being with animals. They give me so much joy. I live on nearly 6 acres. I would love to have babydoll sheep. Just a few. I have no idea how to shear them. I would have to pay someone or figure out how to do it. They are so cute. I watch a couple on YouTube who has them. I melt when I see baby goats. I would like to start with a mother and two babies if I can find them, miniature nubians. I might can find a rescue. A horse rescue across the street told me to let her know when I am ready. She knows goat people. I would like to milk goats, but I know it comes with heartache if there are complications with the birth. I am going to have to think about it. I would love it if it went well every time. And I would not want to put much stress on the female. I wouldn't mind trying to make soap out of their milk...to learn, that is.

I really do miss having ducks, geese and rabbits. The ducks and geese were so easy to care for. I incubated the duck eggs and a few goose eggs a long while back. I did it with chickens too. I loved it!

I am considering netting over where I would have my animals. It is just a thought. I am going to look into it. We have owls and red-tailed hawks. I have plans to put solar electric fencing that switches to on-grid power and install coyote rollers around the fencing we put in. I have not seen coyotes, but my neighbors have. My husband thinks they are seeing large foxes. I don't doubt we have coyotes. I never hear or see them, but we have skunks, possums, foxes and weasels. I have not seen racoons, strangely. I want to be prepared for them all. One neighbor claimed to see a bear. Some saw them a few miles away...so anything is possible. I think I might put electric fencing around the coop when they are up at night and cut it off while they are out. But you do have a point about the wing clipping. I saw a man who used the netting. He seemed pleased with it, but I may would hate it, ha. I am going to research the pros and cons. A worry is wild birds getting caught in it. I won't need to clip their wings if the pros outweigh the cons. I don't like clipping their wings, but mine always flew out of the fence and worried me, the stinkers. I want them safe, happy, and healthy. I think this forum and its lovely people can help me with that 😊

Thank you again for the warm wecome 🥰
