I was so happy to find this site, I raised bantam and other chickens over 30 years ago, now I need some advice, these 2 hens and one rooster are so tiny and I want only the best for them, I have a large wire cage set up with one end closed in w a heat lamp, they seem to just love the set up so far, I also have a fresh water feeder for them so they cant get their scratch in it and such, but can I give them wood shavings for bedding or is hay better? and with their started scratch and fresh water and chick grit, what else can I give them to help them grow to be good egg layers and healthy chickens?, thank you!
from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. I use shavings with all my birds. If you are feeding a starter feed, nothing else is needed. There is a really nice sticky somewhere here about treats. I just can't recall where it is at right at the moment. Maybe someone will remember. Just remember to go easy with the treats. Chicks are just like kids, give them too many treats and they won't eat the food that is good for them. Congrats and good luck.
