Welcome to BYC!! It sounds like the pin feathers are coming in, thats no problem. Fowl preen their feathers to keep them oiled too.So first, I got my ducklings Katie and dasie being the oldest of the two from TSC in South Carolina and I want to make absolutely sure that my duckies have nothing wrong with them.
My oldest dasie she’s still yellow but when you hold her she’s prickly like little feathers are coming but she scratches or licks herself under her bill like in her chest area and when I looked it up it said she has some type of disease but how? I mean I let them go outside for many hours but they always have food and water ! And I always make sure nothing is wrong with her food or with her sister Katie because I can’t have sick ducklings because I cant take them to the vet because I’m no where near one ! So could anyone please help me !! Any help would be nice . Im a teen that doesn’t know what I’m doing .
Hi! Welcome to BYC! You couldn’t have found a better place for awesome bird owners and for questions and answers! Your babies look good as far as picture goes. I just want to add that if you’re a first time duck/goose owner it’s really important that your baby ducks gets the vitamins and nutrients they need early on. Particularly their niacin intake which will be included in their crumbles if you are providing that. Be sure it’s non medicated and it’s for waterfowl. I would get some vitamin b complex just to keep on hand in case you start seeing weakness in them. This stuff is almost a life saver in a pinch for waterfowl. That’s my opinion based on all the problems I’ve encountered with my young birds. If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask on here. There are a quite a bit of knowledgeable and experienced members on BYC.Welcome. Your ducks are cute.
