I have a 17 month old Australorp hen who looks like she is not feeling well. I saw her this afternoon sitting under a chair while all my other girls were pecking around.
I checked to see if an egg was stuck in her but i couldn't feel one. She is just walking around very slowly and then sitting down. She did just drink a lot of water I put in their favorite water fountain. She drank for actually about 25 minutes standing next to the water and drinking very long drinks....I think that is a good sign. I gave them some mealworms earlier...as I usually do after work....and she wasn't interested in them. Any thoughts? I have never had a sick chicken before. Thank you for your time. Just FYI it has been extremely hot here at least 93-95 every day for the past few weeks. The heat index is actually 101-104 on some days it is miserable but they have a lot of shade from trees and a covered run.....

What do you feed your flock?

Can you feel her belly area and tell if it is swollen like?

Hi Kiki I feed Nutrena nature Wise Feather Fixer. They have been on this for about 3-4 weeks not I switched from Purina . I didn't notice her belly being swollen when I picked her up but I really wasn't paying attention to that part. My husband held her for me while I felt for an egg.
Should I go catch her again and feel her stomach?

Hi Kiki she got on the roost and I felt her stomach (what I think is her stomach) I didn't feel any swelling and I felt her crop and it is sorta gel like, watery, is that how it is supposed to be?
