Hi,
New member here, and new to chickens!
We have a feral flock living in a large yard next door. They are breeding like crazy and we would love to "convince" a sibling group of 2 hens and a rooster that are about 5 to 6 month old to move to our yard. The entire flock come to our yard and I feed them a few times a day, but of course they return to their nests at dusk.
Hoping that I can get some information and suggestions on whether we can successfully do this or not.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Is that flock next door chickens? Do you know what kind? You say "feral" so are they in your neighbors yard, yet they don't own them?

Provided nobody for sure owns them, I'd think you could provide some "luring" allowing you to capture a few, then feed them some chick crumbles so they grow up healthy.

We're glad you're here!

Hi!
The neighbor doesn't own them and unfortunately is clueless about checking for nests and eggs so the flock is growing. I just went outside and one of them had brought her 7 adorable little fluff balls to my yard. They all come here because I have fed them for month's trying to get them to live here. We have a very large population of feral chickens where I live, but they just moved into our neighborhood about 6 months ago. No idea what they are. None of them have ever been caged and they freak out if they wander into a space that only has one way out.
Not sure there is a way to get them to stay here without putting them in an enclosure and that would traumatize them :(

:welcome

Hi, have you checked your local laws to see if it's ok to feed and/or capture feral chickens? I used to live in a FL town that had laws protecting the feral flocks and feeding was a violation of local ordinances with fines attached.

Hi , Thanks for replying! I'm in Hawaii and feral chickens are everywhere and considered a nuisance. People dump them in large unpopulated areas and I just read that there is a business that will capture and "remove" unwanted chickens from your yard :(
The feral chickens here tend to be from the illegal cockfighting that goes on. It's very sad....

I would think they best way would be to find a nest and incubate the eggs. Grow the chicks up in a environment thats enclosed rather than locking up some adults that have spent their lives free ranging.
