You can leave the little one in there for a few hours, it will be fine. It's always better to not open the incubator when you have pipped eggs in there, but if you are quick and can get the humidity back up to where it should be quickly afterwards, take her out. Good luck with the rest of your hatch!

Welcome to BYC!

You can leave chicks in the incubator up to 24+ hours. They have absorbed the yolk and can actually go a few days without eating or drinking, but I like to get them out within the first 24 hours.

BUT...you don't want to open the incubator if any eggs are pipping as you can dry them up and cause them to stick to the inside of the shell. So if there are no pipped eggs, you can get him out at any time after he is dry. If there are pipped eggs and it has been 24 hours, what I do is quickly get the chick out and mist the pipped eggs well with water to help keep the moisture up around them. Work as quickly as possible to lose the least amount of moisture possible.

Good luck with your hatch and keep us posted!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congrats on the new chicks and good luck with the rest of the hatch! X3 on the advice above, the chick will be fine in there a day or so and try not to open the incubator while you have a pipped or zipping egg unless you have to. Not sure if you have seen it, but there is a really nice article in the Learning Center on hatching eggs www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101

Thanks for everyones help.

I took the chick out of the incubator last night & its doing great.

I woke up this morning to two more hatched chicks fingers crossed i will get some more.
