We're going to be getting our first batch of chickens in the spring, we're looking at the Plymouth Rock variety, and we're building the coop now. I want to do as much of this from our own garden as we can so we're going to be growing kale, he, black oil sunflower seeds, mealworms, and buying the wheat in bulk to sprout. Never had chickens before but my husband grew up helping out with chickens so are very excited. We're starting out which is using them for eggs but eventually would like to go to meet as well. We've got four kids that we homeschool so this will be a great learning experience I've read so many different posts and articles trying to catch myself up and learn as much as I can I'm very much looking forward to learning right alongside them.

Thank you I have about 500 questions than this is where I go to get all my answers so I figured I might as well join!

Welcome to BYC. I started with chickens this spring, so I'm a little ahead of you on the same learning curve. This is a great place to get info. I recommend starting in the Learning Center (under the Articles link above) and diving in.

About anything you can think to ask has already been answered, but if you can't find an answer quickly, then feel free to post a question under the proper subforum and folks here are happy to help.

Welcome to Backyard chickens Christina, it's nice to meet you. If you put your state name in the search box, it will come up with your state thread. You can post there for local info, and hopefully find some Bycers in your area.

Awesome thank you for the feedback, I am so amazed at the warm welcome in the quick responses I get this is absolutely wonderful I live in New Mexico it's a bit of a desert climate so I was a bit nervous to start with chickens but the more research I did hear in these threads the more confidence I have that I can be successful. My kids are so excited about starting out with the chickens thank you so much!
