AniaOnion
Chirping
Hello Everyone,
I'm AniaOnion or Ania for short lol. If you are wondering why Onion, my first day of kingergarten, the kids at school teased me by saying Onion instead of Ania. I hated it at first, but eventually grew to sort of enjoy the name xD
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I haven't had chickens yet, though my partner has a small flock of Silkies and one what I'm pretty sure is a Bantam Wyandotte. I did adopt earlier this year, however, two coturnix quail from a Wild Bird Rescue center that had them for some time.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have two Coturnix Quail. A lovely darker hen named Baba Yaga. She is my layer and very affectionate. My other Quail is Kikimora and I'm pretty sure she too is a hen, though to the best of my knowledge, she doesn't lay. She was brought to the wild bird center after being badly attacked by a dog at a young age. No one thought she would survive, but she did.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Coturnix, though I may add buttons to my coop at a later date.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
This Forum comes up whenever I search for information, or do research. I've found it very useful in answering some of my questions and I thought I might as well join in.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a writer and an artist. I write a social justice themed blog, and have a book published on the subject of disability. I paint, I do woodcarving, and make jewelry. I love to read, and am someone who sings all the time.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I currently live on my own with a roommate. My partner lives on the other coast of Canada and I am working hard to be able to move up there to join him. He's a blacksmith and woodcarver with a small backyard coop with Three silkies, two of which are just just reaching maturity, and a Bantam Wyandotte. He also has two starlings he rescued and some finches.
My quail ladies are living in a little coop I made them. The bottom is all soil and right now they are eating the clover sprouts faster than they can grow, but eventually the hope is to have the bottom of the coop be planted for their enjoyment. I also take them outside to a second little cage for some fresh air and sunbathing, and they are frequently allowed to roam my apartment for a little extra exercise. My chihuahua CJ is a perfect little lady around them and doesn't harass them, though I NEVER leave her unattended around them just to be safe.
