I'm a Sr. Grandma and retired accountant. I have 2 hens,Robin a big beautiful bared rock and Rosie a Rhode IslandRed. They have the run of our side and back yard and have a 2 story condo to call home. They are turning 8 this spring and still laid some eggs this past year. Can anyone tell me how long they should live? I am also a quilter. Hope to hear from others with same interests.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. Most chicken breeds typically live 8-10 years, but on occasion (as Kelsie2290 stated), they can live considerably longer. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

I had a 7yo hen that laid about 4 eggs a week and even went broody twice in the year before we moved and had to rehome her. 2 Years on I heard from her new owners that she's still doing well. We have a few quilters here, myself included. You will find some quilt chat and share threads down in the Hobbies section:
