Welcome. I am in Mountville SC. As you know, our summers can be brutal, and particularly this summer. I would not get more comets - mine do not do well in the heat. Also my speckled sussex does not do well in the heat either. If you want big brown eggs, I suggest the black australorp. They do OK in the heat. Also, my barred rocks do better in the heat than most of the flock. Chickens do well in the cold, but not in the heat and I find managing them to make sure no one gets heat stress to be quite exhausting. Large single comb chickens do better in the heat - however, that is just a generality. Each bird is individual.
