(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

The first time I had chickens was when I was 5 years old in Northern California about 1976. We reared several mixed breeds for over 20 years and also raised muscovy and cayuga ducks, guinea fowl, turkeys, pheasants and pigeons. We also fostered an Amazon parrot named "Kato".

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

None at the moment but wanting to again.

(3) What breeds do you have?

None currently. I had a lot of "mutt" chickens. Bantam/silkie crosses that had feathered crests and feet. Darling and long lived. We sometimes would introduce Plymouth Rock, Rhode Island Red and Araucana hens to our flock for diversity and get lovely colors (red, buff, black, checkers, white, orange etc) and we would keep many of the bantam sized and give away the rest to friends.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Fresh eggs, pest control, companionship and overall enjoyment. I loved how distinct each bird's personality was.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Music, baking, permaculture, hiking.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My last pet was a husky orange tabby named Mr O'Leary who passed away at the age of 16. I'm single and run a dessert house in Oregon. Want to eventually purchase some land either here, New Mexico or New Zealand (one can dream)..

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I've known about this website for at least 8 or 9 years. I stumbled upon it because I love galliformes. I joined because I wanted to ask questions.
