Hi, I'm new and am having incubation and hatching questions.

Hello and welcome to BYC

Have a look at these threads: Incubating & Hatching Eggs Important Topic Index - Please Review There are some tips in there on how and when to help.

Good luck with your chicks!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I am excited to have other chicken lovers to share with and get advise from. We made it thought the night and now have two more chicks. I think that will be it the 4th egg might not even have been fertile. I tried to candle but I don't know anything about what I am looking at. One of the chicks is having a hard time to stay upright. She keeps falling on her back. I can't tell if it is her legs, her back or what might be the problem. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Hello & Greetings from Kentucky! Congratulations on your new baby chicks. I am also waiting on some to hatch. I have a black silkie who's been broody a week now. SO two weeks to go and we'll see!

Congrats on your new chicks! :woot Glad to hear they made it out. Check out this post for pictures of candled eggs: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation

It may just be that the chick is weak or it might be something else that's going on. You can try giving her Poly-Vi-Sol infant drops (without iron). A lot of times the extra vitamins that are in it can help chicks that are having problems. I think it's one drop in the morning and one drop at night, but you can do a search on here for the exact dosage. If it is her legs and they're spraddled, you can use a band-aid to make a hobble. I've had to make hobbles twice this year and it's worked each time. Oh, and make sure they're kept on a non-slip surface. Good luck :thumbsup
