Hi I'm new but have been lurking on this site for months,
sorry it took me so long to join. I just got my first chicks a little over a week ago from the feed store in town. I was going to get 4 or 6 but ended up with 8 (2 RIR, 2 BR, 2 BSL, and 2 RSL) Right now everyone is doing great in my fish tank brooder (55 gal). I joined not just because everyone looked super nice on this site but because I know sooner or later I will need your help in one way or another--- and maybe some day I will have some wisdom to offer as well.
I am an archaeologist who just bought my first home with DH in UT county, UT which is where my new babies are living; however, I am currently working in southern UT on a excavation so I am only home on the weekend so all my coop building will be done on weekends which leaves my week nights to plan on future care for my chickies. Please don't worry about my chickies DH takes good care of them. The reason I wanting to get into chickens is because I wanted to be more self sufficient with food. I love gardening so getting chicken was the next step, one day I would love to have a small hobby farm. I have bred reptiles for over 10 years and have plenty of knowledge on almost anything with scales, if anyone ever need any help with those critters let me know.
Other then that I don't know what to say about my self I hope that give you a general idea of who I am. I'm glad to get to know you all.
