Hello everyone!
You can call me Ari if you like.
My husband and I live in eastern TN, where we've been blessed with the space to fulfill my long desire to be a chicken mama.
That said, I'm quite new to chicken raising: we've had our flock since the begining of April when most of them came to us as pullets.
We currently have 8 hens and 1 rooster; three of the hens are likely Rhode Islands Reds, we were told they were 1yr old and they truly are egg laying machines (they almost always give us an egg a day each) and the other 6 are supposedly ½ Ayam Cemani (they've certainly got the black feathers and skin going for them, but they all have their unique traits to show that they're mixed. I have no idea how to identify those differences though, I didn't get them for their heritage)
I work from home, so I've greatly enjoyed having these funny birds! They provide a lovely bit of structure to my day, and a good excuse to take my breaks outside instead of in front of a screen.
Being the newbie I am, I've often turned to Google for my questions and freakouts. I am most often let here anyway, so I figured it was time to officially join the community! (That way my answers can be more specific, right?) I look forward to future interactions with you on my chicken journey
~ Ari
