You may want to consider Chantecleers - a chicken breed developed for Canadian winters. There is also a thread I enjoy greatly called "J'est Another Day in Pair A Dice." written/narrated by a lady living in Alberta, with ducks, geese, swans, Llama, chickens, hair sheep etc. and two genuines Australian cattle dogs.

Hi I currently have 2 adult muscovies and 5 of their babies + 5 astrolorp chicks. I tried geese earlier this year but it didn't go well :/ I'm brand new to poultry and am completely learning as I go 0_0 Our birds are farm birds (sorry pet keepers!) but we believe all creatures should be treated with respect and kindness regardless what their fate. We're located in NS, Canada (hardiness zone 5). All our birds are trial and error to see what works for us at this point. I know now that geese do not (the tight family bond is just too hard on me come butcher time). I don't know if muscovies will be a permanent thing for us (depends if the aggression improves or becomes an issue). I may also look into appleyard ducks at some point but I'm a little concerned about my muscovies breeding mules with them; we'll see. I also have 2 youngsters at home, 2 dogs, a cat, and countless aquatics.
