Hi, my name is Shely and I'm looking forward to some new great info on chickens. I just rescued a girl/ boy from a neighbor that lost her entire flock except one to a raccoon. Can anyone identify what breed this is and if it's a boy or girl?

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Aww....how nice of you to take this bird! Looks like maybe a Sussex, do you know the approximate age? Looks like possibly a pullet (female) I don't see any hackle or saddle feathers yet.

Make yourself at home here!

Hello and Welcome to BYC. So Glad that you have joined this community of poultry lovers.

That be a Delaware pullet. I have one flock of those for layers. Light Sussex also look like that but are fairly rare unless kept by a fancier for show from what I have found out. She would be happier with a companion pullet of about the same age.
