Hello! My name is Cordelia - though Splashy is my online name(SplashyDashyBomBashi). I would have to say that I've had chickens for quite a while. Back when my family lived on a farm, we had several hens and about 3 roosters. However, we had to sell them when we moved, and I've missed having something like a chicken or rabbit to take care of(We had rabbits before the chickens who were killed by a frost). Recently, we just got several chicks after our neighbor found a lone hen with a single egg(which the hen had pecked) in her yard. When my mother came home with a rabbit cage and chicken supplies, we were surprised to hear chicks as well! Since then, it's been about a month and a half or so and the chickens are doing well.
We have 2 large hens, 4 adolescent chicks, and 4 young chicks. We have 3 Rhode Island Reds(2 hens, 1 adolescent), 1 Plymouth Rock Chicken( 1 adolescent), 2 Leghorns(2 adolescents), an EE(1 baby), 1 that I think is a Barnevelder(1 baby), 1 that I think is an Australorp or something similar(1 baby), and 2 babies which I am not sure which breeds there are(I can ask my mother though. She's a chicken expert
).
Because of the way we check the chicks' gender(flip onto the back, check leg direction) my siblings and I are suspicious that 2 of the baby chicks are roosters(the previous roos were vicious but I wanted to keep them). So I looked it up online if you could get roosters that are very friendly and that's when I found an article on BackYardChickens.com. I absolutely adore chickens and other animals so I took to this website immediately - so many great tips, tricks, and guides!
Some of my other hobbies include scuba diving, having anxiety attacks and drawing.
Overall, I would like to think I've got a pretty good knowledge of most things chicken - though this website definitely will make me think otherwise(what even is a mealworm?)! So I'm hoping me, my six siblings, two parents, and 3 dogs can handle a few foot-and-a-half tall birds.
I am also very excited to talk and ask and learn with every chicken mom/dad on this website!
Happy travels!
