Hi I'm New here!

thanks for the reassurance about keeping them covered. I just don’t want to miss the time to “train them” to free range. I broke my ankle recently making it harder to chase them if they wander too far. We do have a completely fenced property but I don't trust them enough yet! When they’re full grown, hawks shouldnt be much issue, correct?
The hawks will always be an issue. When they are older they will know to try to run and hide. But to be honest, I let my birds out in the afternoon and I stay out there with them because of the hawks and other predators. I don't want to lose any of them.

Hi and welcome to BYC! We're glad you joined us! I would definitely not let them run loose until your ankle heals. If you keep a favorite treat in a jar, you can train them to come when you shake it. Chickens do love treats! :)
Sadly hawks will always be an issue if you have them. :barnie
And congratulations on your upcoming bundle of joy! :)
