Hi, im new here

Welcome to BYC! Will they be free ranging on the whole .75 acre? I’d say you can have at least 20 and they’d be very happy! Probably even more. Maybe 60? lol. I’m sure others will chime in who know more about chicken acreage than I do. I’m mostly a waterfowl person.
The only thing I know about chickens and heat is, don’t get Orpingtons, at least not chocolate Orpingtons. They’re extra fluffy and do not do so well in heat.

Well. Do you have predators on or around your property? Foxes, coyotes, skunks, porcupines, weasels, rats, snakes, opossums, that sort of thing? Hawks, eagles? Do your neighbors have dogs that run free? All these critters LOVE chickens and eggs and will kill and eat them every chance they get. So if your chickens run free, pretty soon you won't have any. You need a coop and an enclosed run to keep your chickens safe. So your question needs to be, how big of a coop can I afford to build and how many chickens will it hold?
