Hi everyone...
I am new to this site and considering getting a chicken coop going in the spring...
I just have not ever done it so we are looking for the help I believe that I can receive here. We have no idea what kind of coop to build or how large or small, what kind of hens to get we would love the best laying ones... we are just new to the whole process...

We recently moved OUT of the city and we are now on the outskirts. So we are basically country with the city life right down the street! But if you walk out our door you would never know that and WE LOVE IT!

We were able to start a small garden and herbal garden late this summer and for next summer we would love a larger garden as well as the chickens...

So again any help would be so greatly appreciated...
Oh btw we are in Michigan in the suburbs of Detroit....

Welcome to BYC! This is a great site full of very knowledgeable folks who are willing to share their wisdom with everyone. There is also a lot of information in the learning center and the different forums. Good luck with your chickens.

Hello and welcome to BYC

The Coop & Run - Design, Construction, & Maintenance is packed with wonderful ideas and tips on coop building and the Breeds section will give you more info on the different breeds, egg laying, personality etc. The Learning Center is a great place to learn about chicken raising and care and the blue "sticky threads" on top in each section is great for quick links to more detailed info in different aspects of chicken egg hatching, raising chickens, laying chickens, etc. Lots to read! Enjoy the site and we'll see you round!
