Hi Everyone!

I'm new to just about everything, but chickens, I'm definitely new to!

Here's a bit about us:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

This is our first batch of chickens. We thought they'd be good for eggs (husband eats a ton of eggs), good eats (I love chicken) and good pets (kiddo is 1 yr and growing!)

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Three - perhaps one after we find out the genders!

(3) What breeds do you have?

I'm here to find that out. We currently have what looks to be white longhorns or white plymoth rocks. Want multiple breeds in the future though - starting to like this!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

GOOGLE!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Trying a backyard garden - again, something new!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My amazing husband is from India and grew up with chickens, but in a very different format. He forbade me to bring them into an urban area, but when a retiring teacher (I teach) gave us his leftover chicks and all the things we needed to care for them for a month for FREE, I brought them home and convinced him that our daughter needed a pet. They've fallen in love with them and I can't seem to get any attention anymore! LOL!

Welcome to BYC and the wonderful world of chickens!

Chickens are great for eggs, meat, and pets. They are pretty, keep bug levels down, and can help naturally fertilize the garden!

Chickens are awesome, and chicken math is certainly going to kick in! Some great dual purpose breeds for the backyard include Plymouth Rocks, Marans, Red Stars and Black Stars, Wyandottes, Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex, and Dorkings.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, or just tell some awesome stories about your chickens! We love talking about poultry (sometimes too much

) so don't hesitate.

Best of luck with your flock and garden!
