Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! What lovely names you have for your hens :D Have you been keeping them long? Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Hi, Thank you. I have been reading this site for about 6 months now when I first got my chickens trying to learn more than what my grandfather taught me. Only 2 are actually like pets and they are all a year old. I got a set of 3 six months ago and another 3 two months ago. One started molting on January 7th. Do you think she should be done soon? She is the Rhode Island Red and has been squacky all day ( she is not usually noisie) and the hen in my photo I think is a White Plymouth Rock. Do you know how I can tell? The man I got her from said she was a Leghorn and I know she isn't, I have one of those and acts and looks nothing like my leghorn. She is like 10lbs, Bright white, super mellow, and stands an easy head taller than everyone else. Her eggs are a light brown and extra large and shiny. She lays between 4 and 5 days in a row. Do you think someone on here might know the answers to these 2 questions. I plan to get 4 more but am waiting to build my bird aviary out of a satellite dish for the roof. I know they need room. Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to learning all I can! :)

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. Congrats on the resumption of egg laying! Your photo did not appear in your post (at least i can't see it) and this is likely related to the the site administrators trying to limit spam etc. If you try again, your photo should appear. I would suggest that you post the pic in the "what breed or gender" section.

All the best

There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around the run.
