I am getting a chick next spring and I really want to take good care of it. Do you suggest any breeds? Names? Thank you for the kind words![IMG]

Hello and welcome. I am pretty new myself. There are many helpful members on here to help out with all kinds of questions. Even if they have been asked 100 times, everyone is still so nice. You came to the right place!

Hi Lydia and welcome to our community. Maybe check out the Breeds section (one of the brown tabs at the top of the page) and see what may take your fancy. This link may also be helpful - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/byc-mobile-site-quick-start-guide. My advice would be to get a variety of breeds - that way, you will soon find out what breeds suit you and your climate the best. As for names - can't help you there - I don't name any of my flock.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224
