Don't worry- it can feel a bit overwhelming at first. If you have questions, just post somewhere - everyone will help out and try to ensure that you get the help you need.

ETA: Kiki beat me to it :)

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. I hope you have a successful hatch. Chickens are social animals and thrive in company of their own kind, so some more fertile eggs would be a good idea

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224
I work at nights at the telecomunication dept of a hospital and my time went so fast just reading from all those sites. Very exciting! Thanks again!
All the best

you will increase your odds if you use several eggs instead of one. Are you using fertile eggs or just any egg you can find. If they aren't fertile and fresh, you will never get anything.
I knew was fertile, but I enjoyed the candleling part and also a water candle too. I saw the air sac with veins, then on day 17 very dark, but still thicker veins. I hope I get a chick. I will post a picture. :)

Don't be embarrassed at all, new members that cant afford the store bought incubators may want to try something like your husband built one day. Just never know who else wants to learn about it and what he did. So never be embarrassed about what you share with us as we all love this topic so very much.
