Hi, I'm new!

Hi, I have been googling things constantly since getting chickens for the first time about 2 months ago and I always end up on BYC reading posts and comments so I decided to sign up for myself. I hatched my first 8 chickens I got back in April, then bought a dozen from a friend and ordered some from the hatchery too. We have a count of somewhere around 120 now mixed breeds 80 or so are meat chickens the rest are dual purpose. I've also just got one little guinea fowl keet hatch this morning just waiting on the others (there are only 5 more eggs in there). My hubby and I also are working on building a wine fridge incubator right now, he's just finishing up the racks for inside. We still don't have our coop complete with seeding underway our chicks have been living in a little grain bin (only 1 field left so soon we'll be getting to work on it).

I am a stay at home mom and I live out on a farm in Saskatchewan with my farming husband and our 4 kids. I love to garden and am really loving having chickens too. Both my hubby and I always had them growing up and I've been wanting them for years, so happy to finally be making it happen.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! Glad you joined the flock! BYC is a very helpful and informative site! Your chickens sound like they are really useful since you own that many and guineas are really good at reducing the tick population.

@saskmomma4 how do you like the grain bin coop? I'm thinking of moving one of my Peafowl pairs to one for the breeding season next year (with a kennel run off of it) but I was wondering if it would be too hot in there? Or to cold in the winters? Pics of your bin setup would be appreciated I'm in North Dakota (& fairly new to having Peas & guineas )

Sure I'll get some pics for you actually temp isn't too bad we keep the lid on top open and have designed a screen for the door and can prop a fan in the door way on hot days. It's too small currently for my birds but works for the time being.
