Thank you! I let my husband know and he doesn't know anything about any breeds so he said I can choose. I think I'm decided, now I just need to get him to build a coop!I've heard only good things about Australorps. If you want to know more, I'm sure Two Crows could fill you in. Thank you for joining Backyard Chickens.![]()
Awesome, thank you for the input. I'm feeling more and more confident about my decision so I told my husband today that we are finalized on the breed decision. Now he just needs to build the coop! He doesn't want to spend $1900 on the one I found through roostandroot.comHi! Welcome to BYC! I think you will be happy with the Australorps. That's an excellent breed choice.
Hey there, I tried to reply to your question but I was on mobile and somehow it didn't link up properly. But I was fairly certain that I was going to go with Australorps this time. I previously had Rhode Island Reds. I have officially decided on Australorps after the positive input I have received on this post about them and am very excited! Now I just need my husband to build me a coop because he is unwilling to spend the ~$1900 on the one I picked out on roostandroot.com
Hi, it's nice to have you here with us! Congrats on rebuilding a flock...do you know which breeds you want to get?
You can convert an old shed into a coop rather quickly and easily. I did and I love it!Hey there, I tried to reply to your question but I was on mobile and somehow it didn't link up properly. I want a fully enclosed run attached to the coop area because there are coyotes in the nature preserve behind our yard. Also we have a pit bull mix who has never seen a chicken as far as I know (he was a rescue) and I'm not entirely certain that he wouldn't try to eat them before he understands that they are pets. Don't get me wrong, he is a sweetheart and cuddles with our cat, but he is still a dog and would likely want to eat chickens when first introduced to them. I also like that the coops from roostandroot.com have the ez-feed and ez-water systems. I've never seen my husband try to build anything like those and I'm not sure if he would be able to do it well on the first try. He doesn't like to use instructions so I doubt I could get him to follow a set of plans properly. You can convert an old shed into a coop rather quickly and easily. I did and I love it!
