Hi I'm new

Hi, welcome to BYC!

Chickens definitely need help staying cool. They tolerate cold better than heat so when you see them panting and holding their wings out from their side, they are hot.

These are some of the ways we try to keep our girls comfortable:
Shade helps a lot, either natural or man-made
Cool treats like watermelon, cucumbers, grapes, etc.
Extra waterers, frozen water bottles in them
2-3 times a day wet down their run
Don't let them out to run around during the hottest part of the day

Chickens can suffer from heat stroke and even death so you really have to be vigilant to help them out.

Good luck with your flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. NorthFlChick has given you some good advice on keeping your flock cool so I'll just say, please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck keeping your birds cool.

You can also give them a shallow pan of water to stand in - cool feet - cool off the body. Some folks set up water misting hoses.

First entry: the broader is ready and the chicks shipped so, now I'm awake at 1a.m. excited for arrival of hopefully 6 hens and a rooster. Looking forward to some good sharing here at Back yard
