I have been finding a lot of answers on this forum in the last two months, since I first got my chicks. It is a great forum and Because I've never had chickens before, it is extremely helpful. I live in Perth, Australia and have three chickens in the backyard. I am a bit worried that one of them might be a rooster, because I will have to give him away then as I'm not allowed to have roosters. They got big so quick and because I'm not sure exactly how old they were when I got them, (2,5 months ago) , I'm confused as to when they'll start laying. One is a turken (naked neck) and the others are white leghorns, I was told.

the naked neck and smaller " leghorn" don't have combs yet, not sure if that's normal??

At 5 mos. they would be showing red combs IF they are males but, female leghorns also have combs . In general before a pullet begins laying, her comb will turn very red also.

If you could get individual photos of them from the front (showing combs or lack of them) post on "What gender or breed is this," thread and you should get an answer fairly soon. I guess anywhere you live, roosters are not welcome. Most of the posts we get are from people who have to re-home roosters and there is just an endless supply of them.

Thanks everyone, what an amazing forum!! So this morning, we woke with a big surprize, Yes, you guessed it, so it turns out Sammy is a rooster, oh no! LOL!
