Hi - I've put the cart before the horse, or the chick before the coop!

Hi Sue - My name is Marie and I live in a suburb north of downtown Los Angeles. I read your post and can relate. One of my favorite sayings is "Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans". I had two beloved pugs for 16 1/2 years before they each passed away quietly at home last summer. I am an animal person, always have been, always will be much to my husband's dismay sometimes

Anyway, after having the most wonderful quiche at a meeting several months ago, I found out that the eggs came from our neighbor's chickens. I had no idea! So from there, I convinced hubby to try chickens. After a lot of research, I thought I would go with 2 bantam silkies, strictly pets. I had to DNA test them for gender and tested 4 hoping to (and expecting at least 1) get 2. Then I thought, what if I ended up with 4 hens? So then we said we would keep all 4. It turned out that all 4 were roosters so back to square one. Then it was taking too long and I was getting ansy. So I ordered from My Pet Chicken. I had to order a minimum of 5 mixed so I am now waiting for 2 silkies, 1 buff orpington, 1 silver laced wyandotte and one polish. Then this weekend I heard from the first place I was getting just my silkies and I may be getting 1 silkie from them after all. So I was going to start with 2 silkies and now I'm going to end up with 6, 4 different breeds. I'm working on the coop and what was going to be a simple "apartment" for 2 may end being a whole complex
