Hi,
We had one of our coturnix japonica quail go broody, we left her with three eggs and she managed to hatch one. We have segregated mother and chick from the others but wondered when and how to reintegrate as we are scared the others particularly the male, will attack the chick. Any suggestions on this would be appreciated
Thanks

You might want to go visit the Quail trend and work with some of the Quail experts over there as is has been some years for me being away from Quail .......

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You will want to keep them separate for quite sometime. I would wait until the chick is at least 5 or 6 weeks old before introducing them into the flock. Generally momma's are good and protecting their babies, but it depends on your set up. If you keep these quail in a small pen, you will need to wait till the chick grows up a bit.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about quail (never had any), but they are awfully cute little birds. Mountain Peeps has left you with a good link to our quail experts. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your quail.

I would want to protect the little 'lonely-only' myself. I don't know anything about quail just have chicken feathers for brains but, don't trust bigger/older birds about anything.
