Hi! My name is Carla! I live in Northeastern Oklahoma. I have A Rhode Island Red Rooster and 5 hens of assorted varieties.

I bought 10 Easteregger chicks from TSC about 8 weeks ago and I am wondering when is a good time to introduce them to my older chickens. I moved them outside a couple weeks ago and put them in a section of the existing coop so they could see what is going on without them getting hurt. When is a good time to open the door and let them mingle?
Welcome to BYC!! I agree with DobieLover’s post. They’ll get used to each other eventually, but the older ones are going to try and bully the smaller ones for now. They just need to get used to each other. :)

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! When I let my eight out there were just enough to keep the others out numbered. May I suggest sprinkling food in a few directions, so they are well fed/preoccupied while the newbies make their entrance.
