I am so excited to start chicken this coming spring.
I have never had chickens before, I’ve wanted to have them for several years (Over 10)
I want to have probably 6 chickens at least. I am thinking about 3 Malise (Black/White) and 3 Orpington.
I want children friendly chickens that lay eggs. I found this website by typing in “Chickens”.
My other hobbies are gardening, crafting, outdoor wandering/hiking, cooking, and being a grandmom.
I am currently in Anchorage, Alaska, but will relocate to just out of Adair, Oregon in the early spring.
I have 10 grandchildren from 2 months to 9 years old. Half boys, and half girls. I have had many occupations in my time and still do office work.

Welcome!

I recommend a visit to the Learning Centre; lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

and some great coop ideas here if you do not already have any: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

Finally, you might want to say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

I hope the move goes smoothly and best wishes with your new feathered family members when they arrive.
