Hello, my name is Heide.
My husband and i have had chickens several times before, in our 29 years together. But when we moved in 2008, we didnt want to subject our flock to a 4 hr trip, so we gave them to a good home, that keeps us up to date on how they are doing. Yesterday i decided it was time to start a new flock of feathered babys, and ordered 25 Plymouth Barred Rock. We are going to try and convert an old tree house into a coop. Still in the planning stages, just wondered if anyone else has tried this? Have a great day and weekend! :)

Hello and welcome from Ohio....so glad you joined BYC

Tree house sounds like a neat project. Will stay tuned to see how it turns out. Good luck and enjoy your new chicks

! Great to have you and here and that you are getting back into the chicken biz! I assume you're taking the house out of the tree? That would be a long gangplank if not!

Good luck to you!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Most modern chicken breeds don't fly very well (or at all), so you would definately need a way for them to get up there. I would also think it might be somewhat inconvenient in terms of getting food and water in, and cleaning it out. I guess it depends on what your setup is.

LOl, This tree house does have stairs up to it, and like i said it is still in the planning stages. I will try and post some pics, to help with suggestions. Just thought it would be a fun and unique way to utilize the tree house. We do have other options if this one doesnt work out. Thank you for the replys! Off to work in abit, so all of you have a great day and weekend!
