"Hi, my name is Jennifer..."

no, no, no... I moved the chickies from inside, in the bathroom to outside, on the backporch. I thought that was progress.... (until I realized that it was only because A) my bathroom was covered in chickie dust and B) I was getting more chickies from Ideal in a week).

MY NAME is Jennifer and I can stop anytime I want to...............I just don't want to!

And congrats warhorse, you are talking like a true addict, move the younguns out so you can put the babies in where it is safe and warm. PS Rubbermaid long containers are your friends. Cut out a hole in the top of it and cover with old grill racks or cookie racks so they can get air and you are in BUSINESS!!!

We really are a self help group. We will never leave you for long wondering how to do something. We have answers for everything just ask.....oh and the next step is the BYC Chat room! Come there for more fun and pictures of everyones chooks!!

No, that is one of the reasons I emptied the bathtub in the first place.

I have to double check with Ideal just what is on that order....

Actually, I had a screen made to cover the bathtub. I'm thinking about starting from that screen (2ft x 8ft) and fashioning a proper brooder.

The rubbermaid thing sounds good. The bathtub is big for just a few chicks, anyway. Another friend had suggested to use an old fish aquarium, too.

Yes, this site has been great! And, I've met some great people locally, too! I've already stumbled upon the chatroom and I even have the "warning message" PM to prove it.

I had tried the incubator thing before and wasn't highly successful.

Once I start getting fertile eggs, I may experiment again.

OH YES, the warning PM....... AND yes the aquariums work GREAT! Keeps the heat and such....HOWEVER, warning, don't try to help clean out the bedding by lightly banging on the bottom of the aquarium...

I have 15 chicks due in the mail this week and 100+ eggs growing in the incubator. Originally I wanted to 'test' the incubator. Friend gifted me 100 eggs, I had some from mine and the rest is history. Most that I candled were growing.

This was AFTER I originally told hubby don't worry, I won't be doing chicks this year b/c of the baby coming.

WELL. The Ideal order showed up but half of them were dead or died on arrival.
sad.png
That sucked. I had ordered sussex and WFBS and added some ideal whites and EE to fill the order. All of the sussex and WFBS are the ones that died.
hmm.png
So, I have 4 ideal whites and 3 EE and a couple SL "just because". I also tried to kill the 3-4 month old chickies that I had moved to the back porch.

I didn't think about the heatlamp being in the 4x8 coop when it got in the 90's the other day. Hot chickies are not happy chickies. So, I turned it off. Then, it got down to 40 that night. grrrr. Why do we do this, again? Someone remind me....
