Last year, in August, I started my 1st flock with 4 local Barred Rock hens. A month later Charlie, my roo, a mixed ( I think) Barred Rock, came to us. All of them were hatched in the spring. In October I got a free Black Copper Maran hen who fit in well. Around about December a friend gave me a Black Sex-link hen and again about March she gave me 2 more. We had a happy flock and 7-8 eggs a day! At the end of May I lost 2 BSL and a BR and I learned about hawks,coyotes and foxes. Last week my Maran hatched 2 chicks! I call my birds Puppybirds because they are so lovable and cute. :)

I hope to come to the 2013 Chickenstock and bring a friend, who is my chicken mentor. :)
