Hi everyone! Im new and had a question on the breed of ducks we own. We got "suckered" in on easter to buy two new ducklings from the feed shop and honestly, i think theyre the neatest pets ive ever had. Theyre so much fun to watch and pet and my children LOVE them! Although, they are getting a bit loud. Any way to curb that a bit? If not, its ok. Just the nature of animals!

Anyway, what kind of ducks are these? I was just told that they are Crested (obviously!) but what kind of crested? Best way i could tell from googling is Swedish? Maybe a blue and black Swedish Crested Duck? Or am i way off? Thank you so much in advance!!!

I cant wait to lurk more and get to know everyone and learn about my new animal friends!

a few days old (only have pics of the black one, the gray [tan as a new duckling] wouldnt let me get a pic)

And sorry about the terrible quality, i was using a cell phone camera.

thank you so much for your replies! My daughter (7) was asking me about entering them into the fair. Is that possible? How can you tell if an animal is "show quality"? any good sites to browse about this subject? And thanks for the warm welcome

To tell if they're "Show Quality" or not bring them to the fair and see what the judge says. They might write something on the card that identifies them. Entering them in a show is most definitely fun.

Show quality and Fair quality is not the same. I can tell you right now that they would not do well in a American Poultry Association (APA) Show because they don't match any of the APA Standards. Most Fairs don't meet APA standards for a Show so the two worlds don't mix that much.
They might do well at a fair, they are nice looking ducks! Crested birds often catch a judges eye. Probably the biggest problem you would have at a fair is knowing what to enter them as. Smaller fairs might only have one class for all ducks, no problem. Others may want you to specify the breed, age, and sex. Maybe there would be someone there to help you get them in the right class. This year they could be "young (1 year or less) Crested Sweeds" I don't know that much about sweeds maybe there are sex differences that show up later you say they are loud so probably both females if they don't have the drake curl on the tail, females. I would call ahead before taking to the Fair different places have different requirements. Make sure they have nothing but clean water to clean up in and dry bedding so they don't get muddy. I would get them used to being in cages as they will be at the fair. check to see if the fair provides cages or if you are expected to bring your own. You will need a cage to travel in anyway also feed water and bedding. Many fair goers bring their own if allowed. Good Luck!

hey thx for the replies! Ill have to give the fairgrounds a call when the county fair comes back to town. My daughter would have a blast im sure
