(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? yes

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 3 chicks, hatched 2/22 (first time hatching and raising chickens)

(3) What breeds do you have? 2 olive eggers and one mixed "heavy bloom"

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? we are big sustainability types and hunt and grow a lot of our food, I'm surprised it's taken this long for us to take up chickens. Our current status is wannabe urban homesteaders ;)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening, camping, hiking, really anything that gets me outside with purpose

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I'm Jicarilla Apache, grew up in northern NM, went to college in VA, worked in NYC for several years before moving down south to Atlanta with my husband and two kids. I work for a media tech company building software

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D obsessively googling incubation techniques for hatching shipped eggs, then obsessively googling when they hatched, and now finally posting b/c one chick, nicknamed crusty butt, is having some issues.

I'm glad to be here! There's already so much I"ve learned from this community!

Hello Jicarella and welcome to BYC! Congrats on becoming a chicken owner. I have had my small flock of 4 chickens for 2 years now and it has been such a rewarding venture! I hope to hatch chicks someday, good for you to jump right in and begin with that, now it is not intimidating. I too am a wannabe homesteader :) I live in suburban southern New England. My husband and two kids enjoy our small flock too. Someday I'd love to expand to own a rooster and larger flock (part of the farm daydreaming).
Best of luck to you.
