Hi all,

I don't have any good photos to attach yet, but plenty to come in my future posts. :)

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, I'm brand new to this. Got my chickens 1 month ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

18.

(3) What breeds do you have?

One flock of large barnyard mixes. A second flock of Icelandics.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Eggs, of course. :) But also, I was delighted at just how much personality they have. They bring so much joy with their silly antics everyday. Come to think of it, I don't think I've actually ever even seen a chicken in person before this (just TV/movies) — horses, goats, sheep, alpacas, emus, rabbits, all yes, but somehow not chickens — so this is all so novel to me.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Walking in the forest, sleeping outside in the open air under the stars, relaxing by the woodstove with a good book. Gardening to grow some of my own food is in the plan.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I live on my own in a cabin in a clearing in the forest with my bunnies and chickens. Truly off-grid with no alternatives — no solar panels, generators, propane, plumbing, wiring, nothing. Just well-insulated, with a woodstove. A simple life, by choice.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I love researching new things and I tend to casually percolate on ideas that interest me for years before I take the leap when the circumstances are right. Re. chickens, it became apparent this is the go-to community resource.

Hello I'm truly pleased you found us. :D

Reading your introduction was a real pleasure.

We have a baking thread here too if you're interested that may come in handy as another food supply.

There are many people here on BYC that are so are helpful with chickens
