Hi New Friends!

Hello! My family and I have been looking forward to getting chickens for years. Finally had the time to get things set up as we are staying home :)

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to owning chickens myself, we got them two weeks ago. Things were a little hit and miss to start but I think I finally have a good setup. I went to my family's farm a lot as a kid and was exposed to chickens but never had the job of tending to them or raising them from chicks.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 7 chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 3 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Barred Rocks and 2 Ameraucanas (one white and one brown). Pictured is me and one of my Buff Orpingtons, Lizzo.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Haven't delved too far into it but I think so far I like the connection I've made in suych short time with my chickens. They are my babies. Also gives me something to do and think about when we are home. My kids are also learning responsibility while tending to them.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to workout, stay active, read, run, play with my kids, tend garden, bake, cook, crochet

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have four kids, three girls and a boy. My girls are 9, 7, 3 and my son is 1.5. I'm a fitness instructor by trade.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I found BYC when I was googling how to save my chicks. Then I read a list of things you can do to stave off boredom during quarantine and one of the suggestions was to join an online forum so here I am :)
Welcome! You will Love it here. So nice to meet another Michigan chicks mom! I love Buff girls. My first flock I had many years ago were Buffs and Americaunas! I loved those fluffy butt girls!
