I have a small backyard flock of bearded Silkies. I hatched them in September from shipped eggs and they are just wonderful fun little pets. They came of age and the hens began laying in February. I have collected eggs nearly daily since. On April 30th, one of the hens went all broody and saved up a little clutch of 5 eggs. This was fine and kind of exciting as I am on several acres so a few more chickens would be welcome. Today, just 11 days into her setting, she abandoned the clutch. I suspect she did it in the middle of the night as I heard her making that "disturbed" clucky sound, but when I looked outside, all the other birds were asleep so I went back to bed figuring she was up to eat or poop. When I got up this am, she was still off the nest and the 5 eggs were cold. My question: Are the eggs salvageable if I put them in the incubator or have they been cold for too long ( maybe 4 hours?)
Thanks in advance....

I'd definitely put them in an incubator, if you're sure her broodiness is over. Four hours isn't too long for them to survive. It sounds like she was disturbed by a predator, perhaps outside the coop. They shouldn't be up eating or pooping in the middle of the night.

Do you have a rooster in your flock? If not the eggs can't be fertile - that could be one reason your broody left the nest.

Yep.....got three Roos....nicest male birds ever. They're so gentle they cuddle with my dogs. Love my boyz.....:)
