Hi im new here,
Hoping someone can help! I have nine backyard chooks and one rooster. We are in the UK so because of the Avian flu, all are under cover at the mo. However our rooster is attacking the older chooks!! They are starting to get really stressed. Also his crowing is really causing aggro with the neighbours!!

My question is can I separate him away from the chooks with our causing him too much distress?? Also will separating him stop him crowing!?? We don't want to get rid of him bc my daughter hand reared him. Any help will be much appreciated!!

Hello Kat, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Can you just rehome him? Is he a rooster or a cockerel? Pullets or hens? If he is a cockerel and the girls are pullets, he has come into sexual maturity before they have and they want nothing to do with his advances yet. Pet him up so he cannot bother them.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Yes it sounds like he either needs to be homed or separated. You will never change his personality. I've had to separate males in the past for this reason, I don't have the heart to put them down for this reason if they are still friendly to me. You can't allow him to terrorize your flock, especially older hens. Good luck and welcome aboard!
